NATURE
Chong Wen Hui
We have neither Summer nor Winter
Neither Autumn nor Spring
We have instead the days
When the eastern sky is beginning to light up
The first crack of dawn can be seen against the dark sky
And the majestic sun shines on the verdant green paddy fields-
Resplendently.
The day when it is a fine cool morning
And the gentle breeze enlivens our souls.
There is an intoxicating brilliance and ebullience about the day
A kind of champagne-like cheeriness.
Only the occasional barking of the dogs,
The chirping, the twittering and the fluttering of the early birds
Break the tranquil silence of the world.
Soon the sun is considerable lower
And birds in large flocks flying to their resting places.
Night is falling
And the setting sun’s red ray lights up the sky
Above the western horizon.
The last shreds of sunlight have vanished from the sky
Darkness begins to loom over us
And the moon has made her appearance
Also there are myriads of twinkling jewels in the black sky.
The crickets make their unique, melodious sound
Which hovers throughout the silent night
And beauty of nature comes suddenly without being perceived.
